It is well known that it is impossible to win at noughts and crosses (tic-tac-toe) unless your opponent makes a mistake, because if both players play optimally, the result is a tie.
This reminds me of a similar game--can't remember even if it had a name--I played in high school breaks. My friend who showed me was apparently very fond of the game and he beat me fair and square the first several games. As I learned the steps, the tables began to turn. Of course, this was over 50 years ago, so my memory is a bit vague regarding the details.
